Vaksdal municipality is situated centrally between Voss and Bergen. The main road between Bergen and Oslo, E16 runs through large parts of the municipality and makes for efficient communication towards the east-west. Vaksdal municipality has an area of 738 km2 and is the 5th largest in size in Hordaland county and has 4173 inhabitants. The nature in Vaksdal varies from high mountains and valleys to deep fjord landscape. Parts of the municipality do not currently have mobile coverage due to the challenging mountain and fjord landscape. Large parts of Eksingedalen as well as Nordrgrend (the north side of Osterøy by Stamnes) are currently without mobile coverage. These areas will not be developed privately. Both households, businesses and public operations will be covered in a development of these areas. Today mobile coverage is a prerequisite for settlement, development and growth. There are several areas without mobile coverage in Vaksdal municipality. The lack of mobile coverage is exacting for the inhabitants in a modern society based on access to this type of infrastructure. Mobile coverage for all inhabitants is currently a national target. The lack of mobile coverage is challenging for existing businesses and can prevent further development and growth in the rural districts. Good infrastructure in the form of good mobile coverage and broad band can pave the way for companies and work places being established in our rural districts. The lack of mobile coverage is challenging for municipal services. The nursery, primary and secondary school in Eksingedalen do not currently have mobile coverage. The municipal and county roads are without coverage. Consideration to stand-by services in these road areas is also hard for the municipality. The aim of the tender for Vaksdal municipality is to develop secure mobile coverage for all inhabitants and businesses in the areas that are included in the tender documents. Vaksdal municipality would like service providers who can actively contribute to achieving the aims within this concrete project and the relevant areas.
