Welsh Language Translation

The Welsh Language (Wales) Measure 2011 established a legal framework to impose duties on certain organisations to comply with standards in relation to the Welsh language. The Measure has established official status for the Welsh language in Wales, as well as the general principle that Welsh should not be ‘treated less favourably’ than the English language in Wales. Ofcom’s overall compliance with the Welsh Language Standards regime resides with the Regulatory Affairs Principal, Wales with ongoing support from the Senior Welsh Language Affairs Advisor who ensures the timely turnaround of accurate Welsh versions of a wide range of documents as well as managing Ofcom’s online and social media presence. The requirement is for delivery of a translation service from English to Welsh and less frequently, from Welsh to English.
