Glasgow Caledonian University has identified a need for a contract for a Student Attendance & Engagement Monitoring System. The legal requirements to monitor student attendance are derived from external stakeholders, such as the UK Border Agency (UKBA) for students on Tier 4 Visas, and the Students’ Award Agency for Scotland (SAAS). It is also a vital component of our student retention, academic support and pastoral care strategies in order that we can identify students who may require interventional support. The scope of the final solution will be to provide business processes, infrastructure and information applications support to meet GCU’s external legal requirements and internal strategic and operational imperatives. It is intended that a solution is developed and implemented to provide ‘automatic’ electronic data that verifies students have been in attendance at scheduled classes and also records other relevant data relating to student engagement at the University. The closer the electronic verification can demonstrate that the student was involved in relevant learning activities the better.
