Small scale filling machine.

The institute requires a new small scale filling machine. The primary function of the machine will be the ability to fill both 3ml and 5ml ampoules and 5ml screw cap vials with 0.25ml to 2ml of aqueous solutions. For 1-2 ml fills the coefficient of variation of fill weight must be <0.25 %, i.e. a range of 1.0000gm +/-0.0075. For smaller fills a CV of <1 % is acceptable. It must be able to fill at least 2 000 units in a 6 hour working day with a minimal wastage of material. Ideally wastage would be such that it was economic to fill a small batch of approximately 500 units without too much waste to prime the system. We would also be interested in solutions which were able to partially insert 13mm and 14mm freeze drying stoppers into the ampoules and vials; to fully insert stoppers into liquid fills; to partially lift stoppers and heat seal ampoules; and to apply caps to the screw cap vials. All product contact parts must be autoclaveable or capable of chemical sterilisation. The machine must fit and be operational in an area no greater than 3.5m by 1.5m, located below a laminar air flow hood provided by NIBSC. An important function of the machine will be the ease and time required for changeover, when changing from an ampoule fill to vial fill or vice versa or changing fill volume. The process must be easy to follow and not excessively time consuming. All the required equipment for changeover must be supplied with the machine, with training and instructions to indicate how this should be undertaken. The instructions and average time to changeover the equipment should be included in the returned specification. A fundamental part of the review will be to analyse the available machinery, therefore arrangements will be made to visit the contractor’s site and view the type of machinery that the contractor can offer prior to invitations to tender. Once site visits have been completed and documentation analysed up to five contractors who can meet the institutes requirements shall be invited back to tender.
