Oxfordshires RTI system has been fully operational since april 2006. A capital investment exceeding 3 million GBP has been made by the Oxontime project partners: Oxfordshire County Council, Stagecoach in Oxfordshire, Oxford Bus Company and Thames Travel Ltd. As of May 31st 2011, the system encompasses: 233 on-street displays on Premium Bus Routes (202 PMR and 31 GPRS) 304 vehicles fitted with GPS tracking equipment 16 traffic light priority sites A web interface (www.oxontime.com) approximately 8,000 users per month. A text messaging service over 100,000 users in last 12 months. Fleet management tools & safety critical voice radio for Oxford bus company. System monitoring tools at Speedwell House and Cambridge Terrace. Three PMR radio base stations providing countywide route coverage with server links to Buckinghamshire for cross-boundary services. The approach adopted for the retendering of Oxfordshires RTI requirements reflects the Councils current funding position i.e. to maintain the existing system at current or higher performance levels, allowing for some limited expansion. A specific focus is being placed upon making RTI more accessible via open RTIG/SIRI data standards and through mobile phone technologies. The specification and associated price schedules will therefore provide for both ongoing maintenance of all system assets, and scope for limited enhancements to include additional hardware and software. Stringent Service Level Agreements will apply to the maintenance and fault rectification of system assets on a 24/7 basis, 365 days a year. The system operates almost exclusively on a real time only basis and therefore requires regular updating of bus timetables, including those covering holiday periods. Road works and a congested highway network also create a requirement for robust and flexible sign/system messaging tools.
