North Yorkshire County Council (NYCC) are awarding a framework, to provide year round grounds maintenance work and associated services at NYCC schools and other NYCC sites throughout the Selby, Harrogate and Craven areas of North Yorkshire. The work to be undertaken on the framework will include but not be limited to; — grass cutting, — bed and border maintenance, — line marking of sports fields and yards, — hedge cutting, — weed control. NYCC are currently responsible for the maintenance of the grounds of around 50 non-school properties in the framework area the current framework value is approximately 80 000 GBP per year. These sites include offices, libraries, elderly people’s homes and children’s centres. The Council is currently reviewing services and resources and is undergoing an estate rationalisation programme, consequently it is likely that a number of these sites will be removed from the scope of the framework. In addition to the non-school properties, the NYCC grounds services manager proposes to offer to school sites in the contract area a ‘managed service’ whereby schools may choose to receive grounds maintenance by the successful contractor, under the terms of the framework, with all matters of contract management handled through the NYCC grounds maintenance service. Within the framework area, there are currently around 170 school sites serviced by a number of contractors. There is potential for up to 55 school sites to join the managed service arrangement from April 2012, with further sites being invited in future years as their existing contracts expire. The number of sites who may accept this invitation and choose to enter the managed service is not known and will be dependant on the service package and pricing on offer. The potential value of works currently provided to those school sites who will be invited to join the arrangement on commencement is in the region of 266 000 GBP per year. Requirements will be subject to call off from the agreement - no commitment or guarantee of volumes or value of work is given.
