The railway line between Coleraine and Londonderry is mainly single track with a single passing loop at Castlerock. There is one other intermediate stop at Bellarena, located north east of Limavady. The route is 33,5 miles in length. Translink has initiated a project to relay two sections of this railway line. The two sections which will be relayed are between Coleraine Station and Castlerock and between Eglinton and Londonderry Station. In total these 2 sections of route are 13,5 miles in length. Translink will construct the permanent way for these Renewals Works using pre-cast concrete sleepers. Translink now proposes to procure 8 000 concrete sleepers for inclusion within this project. (Translink already has a number of sleepers within stock which will also be used within these works). The 8 000 concrete sleepers will be procured from a single supplier as 1 Lot. In addition, the appointed Economic Operator will be Translinks preferred supplier for the supply of Concrete Railway Sleepers for the Coleraine to Londonderry Project and any further requirements during the period March 2012 to the end of December 2014. The appointed Supplier will be responsible for the design of the concrete sleeper. The sleeper will be designed in accordance with loading, durability and serviceability requirements of Northern Ireland Railway’s standards and the appropriate Network Rail Standards. The Supplier will source the cast metal shoulder for inclusion within the pre-cast concrete sleeper. The concrete sleeper Supplier will deliver the product to Translink’s sites along the Coleraine to Derry Railway Line using public road vehicles. These works will be let under the NEC3 Supply Short Contract.
