The main aspects of the constructed scheme will include: — The provision of new mitre gates, — The provision of support infrastructure for the new lock gates, — The provision of control mechanism for the gates, — The provision of berthing pontoons in the shortened lock, — The provision of a new pierhead control building, — Repairs to the existing infrastructure to support the new lock feature, — Any other works required to support the installation of the new gates. The project will have to be designed and implemented in such a way that the existing Dock/Marina operations are subject to the least disruption. The grant conditions direct that the new lock gates should be installed / commissioned, and all expenditure relevant to the grant is to be expended before 31.12.2013. Atkins Ltd have been appointed as designer and Project Manager for the scheme and are working together with Ken Grubb Associates Ltd for the specialist design of the gates. Early Contractor Involvement (ECI) maybe sought for this project, in order to achieve best value through management of risk and production of practical design solutions. Community benefits do not apply to this contract.
