Diamond Light Source wishes to gain access to a soft X-ray microscope which is capable of tomographic data collection on cryogenically cooled biological cells. This cryo soft X-ray microscope will consist of a soft X-ray source, ideally operating around 500eV coupled to a microscope with cryogenic tomography data collection capability. The ability to view the samples in situ is a key feature of the system. The equipment must be fully operational on delivery to Diamond in the sense that collection of tomograms of cryogenically cooled biological cells is possible. Software for the control of the equipment, acquisition of the data and downstream analysis must be provided. However given the nature of the technique it is accepted that further developments to the system in terms of both hardware and software are likely to be required. It is this technique development aspect that Diamond wishes to focus on for the duration of this project. Thus Diamond is keen to encourage a project of a collaborative nature with the chosen supplier.
