FSCS is seeking to put in place a customer contact contract to cover a large incident or the failure of financial institution resulting in a significant influx of enquiries from the general public. The contract shall be for a period of 3 years with the option of a year's extension. By way of context, FSCS has only been required to mobilise this Service twice in the past 6 years. On the most significant occasion, the Service was required for a period of 10 weeks. This resulted in over 50 000 calls being recorded, with 9 155 being the highest number of calls taken in a single week.
