Residential care homes divestment.

Suffolk County Council (the “Council”) seeks expressions of interest from private, voluntary, third sector and other organisations or bodies that are, or may become, providers of residential care, residential dementia care, respite and intermediate care, nursing home care and community support services (including day care support services for older people) in Suffolk for the purposes of responding to an Expression of Interest document prepared by the Council. The Council welcomes interest from representatives of the local community as well as new companies and other types of organisations. The Council currently runs 16 care homes rated good or excellent by the Care Quality Commission and which provide a range of services including long term and short term residential care for older people and older people with dementia and intermediate care. There are 10 community Wellbeing centres (day care support services) either incorporated into the main care home buildings or located in separate buildings. Details of the homes are available via the following link: www.suffolk.gov.uk/carehomeseoi. The Council intends to move to an ‘enabling role’, which means a move away from the current position where the Council occupies an important provider role. It is expected that the review of the delivery of the above services and possible divestment of these services will ensure more localised and joined up services and bring about a reduction in the cost of places at a time when the finance available to the Council is limited and when demand from a growing older population is increasing. The Council seeks expressions of interest from organisations committed to the development and delivery of high quality care services for older people and further information and the Expression of Interest document is available from the contact point at KPMG as set out in this notice. We also intend to hold an open event in Suffolk on 10.6.2011 for those who wish to express an interest. In the event of a significant response, places could be limited. Please contact Tahira Tejani at tahira.tejani@kpmg.co.uk if you wish to attend.
