The National Blood Service (NBS) is an operating division of the NHS Blood and Transplant (NHSBT), which is a special health authority responsible for the provision of blood components, tissues and a range of associated specialist laboratory and patient therapeutic services to hospitals in England and North Wales. The NBS requires bespoke container solutions to transport fresh whole blood and blood components. The proposed solutions must be cost effective, simple to operate, space saving, and have an excellent temperature control performance. The system should include appropriate temperature stabilisation material. The requirement is divided into two separate solutions, reflecting the needs of different functions within NBS. Detailed requirements for each lot are included together with general requirements applying to both solutions.
