SURFnet is looking for a long-term relationship with an NGE Industry Partner that will contribute to the realisation of GigaPort3 project. SURFnet and the NGE Industry Partner will co-operate during the course of the contract in the design, building and maintenance of the Next Generation Ethernet layer of the SURFnet network. This Ethernet layer will have to be based on MPLS-TP, PBB-TE or similar (emerging) standards, and will from the date of its creation have to be state-of-the-art. The NGE Industry Partner will be contracted to design and supply the NGE component of the SURFnet7 infrastructure. More specifically the NGE Industry Partner will: — contribute to the design of the network architecture of SURFnet7, — provide NGE equipment, including related software and NMS, — be responsible for the maintenance and support of the supplied NGE hardware, — be responsible for 3rd line support on installation, configuration, hardware and software issues to be provided to the SURFnet7 NOC & Integration Partner, — act as an innovative partner and stimulate innovative co-development of new features for SURFnet7. The result of this tender will be the awarding of a framework contract with a single supplier to cover the abovementioned activities. The implementation of this network is expected to start in 2011, with the initial roll-out finalised before the end of the year. However, due to the innovative character of SURFnet’s activities, SURFnet expects to add both new functionality and additional capacity throughout the duration of the contract.
