The design and construction of a treated effluent discharge system from the Ringsend Waste Water Treatment Works (WwTW) to the Irish Sea in Dublin Bay. A baseline reference design of the system has been submitted for planning consent/environmental assessment purposes which comprises the following:-. A 9km long sea outfall tunnel (LSOT) discharging up to 13,8 m³/s of treated effluent from the WwTW by gravity under all specified tidal conditions. Treated effluent is to be diverted to and enter the proposed LSOT at a new inlet shaft located onshore, c.350m east of the existing WwTW. The LSOT will connect to an offshore marine shaft which rises to a single effluent dispersal/diffuser head located above the sea bed in c. 25m depth of water at LAT. The baseline reference design envisages the LSOT being c. 5m internal diameter and constructed in rock at depths of 60-90m over its length. Preliminary sizing envisages the onshore inlet shaft being 20m internal diameter and up to 110m deep, and the marine riser shaft being 4m internal diameter and 60-80m deep. All of the foregoing is subject to planning and other statutory consents and will be subject to detailed design in accordance with the Employer’s Requirements to be issued at tender stage.
