Weed Control — Highways and Other Areas Contract is required to meet the Council's requirement in order to safely carry out the control of weeds using approved herbicides. The successful Contractor will be required to provide the services to maintain a 99 % weed free environment across Highway and Other Areas within the London Borough of Tower Hamlets. This contract predominately involves the performance of works on the public highway. The Contractor must comply with all Road Traffic Regulations. In particular Chapter 8 of the Department of Transport Traffic Signs Manual summarized in the HMSO publication ‘Safer Road Works Ahead’ and all other current legislation relating to works which affect the Highway. The Contractor must also comply with all relevant sections of the New Roads and Street Works Act 1991 where the works will affect the Highway. This contract is designed deliver the highest quality service available in-line with, British and European Standards, sound and accepted best practice implicit in the Specifications and public/user health and safety. The Council is committed to improving the quality of life for both residents and businesses within Tower Hamlets. In-line with The Public Services (Social Value) Act 2012 the authority will consider how this procurement might improve the economic, social and environmental well-being of the relevant area. In order to achieve this, it is our objective to work with existing and future contractors to secure an appropriate level of community benefits through the procurement process. Detailed guidance and minimum levels of the economic and community benefit applicable to this tender will be available within the tender documentation. Contract length: 3 Years +1 +1 (3 years plus an option to extend for a further 2 x 12 months at the discretion of the Council).
