Kripos has the operative responsibility for a boat that participates in rescue actions managed by Frontex in the ongoing migration crisis in the Mediterranean area. The blankets shall be used during the transportation of migrants on board. The migrants stay on deck during the crossing, with minimal protection from weather and wind. The migrants are not able to stay inside during freezing temperatures, precipitation or illness, due to the danger of contamination. This danger also means that the blankets cannot be reused. The main aim of the blankets is to provide protection from the cold, wind and water during the crossing, which can last for up to 60 hours. The migrants sit and partly lie on a hard surface during the crossing and the blankets ought, therefore, contribute to making this as comfortable as possible.
