NRM Masterplan: The First Phase Exhibition Design

The National Railway Museum is part of the Science Museum Group and this tenders is for the first phase of its transformation. We are the world’s greatest railway museum. There is nowhere that can better tell the epic story of the way rail has transformed the world we live in. We have a challenge – to tell that story to 21st century audiences in a coherent and compelling way. To fulfil our mission, we are planning a major project: To completely re-display our Great Hall – the 8 300 m 2 centrepiece of the museum and one of the UK’s grandest exhibition spaces; To create Wonderlab – a 2 300 m 2 hands-on gallery and learning space inspiring future engineers; To refresh and re-present our open collections store. Our aim is to complete these works in 2021 as the first phase of a wider Masterplan for NRM.
