Even after the disbandment of the cyclist troops the Swiss Armed Forces still have a need for bicycles in order to realise displacements in a simple and environmentally friendly manner. The introduced Service Bicycle 05, which has been in operation for more than 100 years, no longer meets current safety standards and due to its technical construction can no longer be appropriately maintained. The Bicycle 93 is a special construction for the disbanded bicycle troops. Therefore it is almost impossible to find commercially available components for maintenance and repair. So a replacement imposes itself for economic reasons. The introduced, outdated Bicycles 05 and 93 susceptible to failure are to be replaced by a robust bicycle, corresponding to state-of-the-art technology and equipped with commercially available components. The troops, particularly during basic training, are to be provided with a bicycle as an economical and environmentally friendly means of transport for short distances. — Operated by armed services personnels in battle dress, equipped with basic carrying unit, personal weapon and field pack, — Standard frame size for body heights from 1.60 to 1.90m, — Payload (person and equipment) ≥120kg, — Payload front carrier ≥10kg, — Payload rear carrier ≥20kg, — Minimum service life 10 years, — Workload approx. 500km/year. Basically purchased and commercially available components are assembled, whose requirements from frame to carrier and lighting are specified in detail by armasuisse. At the same time contactor has to assume the system management by means of a service level agreement.
