Nasjonal vegdatabank (hereafter called 'NVDB') is a success story, and a result of work over many decades. NVDB is the national hub for Norwegian roads and transport data, and very many actors in society depend on it being available. The current NVDB was specified and developed at the start of the 2000 decade, and the use of NVDB has increased formidably since then. The Norwegian Public Roads Administration sees that society's expectations and requirements for deliveries that enable digital infrastructure for mobility on roads is starting to run away from the current NVDB. In order to meet the rate of development, both as regards technology and our customers' needs, a change is needed in the organisation and in the systems that deliveries from NVDB is based on. There has been a lot of movement in available and suitable technologies in the last 10 years. Digital twins and the use of a cloud are examples of possibilities where their use must be reviewed in order to get a more efficient NVDB.
