To deliver the refurbishment of Grade II listed Kathleen Lonsdale Building (KLB). Improving building utilisation, improving building accessibility, consolidating the Department of Earth Sciences and providing accommodation for Department of Physics and Astronomy. The project will also include a new Radio Chemistry lab. The building also incorporates Department of Chemistry, Main Bloomsbury data and communication hubs and other sensitive laboratories which all must be kept operational throughout the project. The lift shaft is to be widened to accommodate a new lift car. The project will be delivered under X main phases, Y mini phases within the main phases. The works will comprise of new research laboratories, offices, hubs space and seminar/teaching space and remodelling of an existing lecture theatre providing 6 100 m 2 of works space over 4 floors. New existing gas boilers situated in the roof top plantroom will be removed and low temperature hot water (LTHW) for heating purposes will be delivered from the existing District Heating Scheme. The project will also include new LTHW risers and new chiller. Mains electrical switchgear within the basement and associated sub-mains distribution serving the floors are currently being renewed under a separate project. The electrical distribution throughout the building is to be rationalised through the provision of 2 new electrical riser locations 1 in each wing and dedicated IT patch room on each floor providing power and data connection points at each floor level. The fire alarm, security, lightening protection and other electrical systems will be modified to suit the building layout. The existing standby power provision consisting of 2 generators (1 located at ground level and other at roof level) and to be retained.
