(24338) New advanced MP microscope for Biophysics and Biology Research

NTNU seeks to acquire an advanced imaging platform that combines state-of-the-art confocal laser scanning microscopy (CLSM) with fluorescence lifetime imaging (FLIM) and multiphoton (MP) microscopy. This imaging platform must include the latest and highest quality individual components within its range (i.e. lasers, detectors, objectives, microscope components, etc.). The main objective of this procurement is to replace and upgrade our aging Leica TCS SP8 Multiphoton Confocal Microscope (MPM) system. As Multiphoton Confocal Microscopy (MPM) is an essential tool for many research projects at NV Fault and beyond, upgrading this infrastructure is critical. The core facility, the Center for Advanced Microscopy (CAM), has been providing state-of-the-art optical microscopy techniques for over 20 years. The number of users per year is about 60 and the center has about 4000 user hours per year, 1000 on the MPM. The system at CAM is the only widely accessible, multi-purpose MPM system at NTNU. NTNU has an initial investment budget of 6.6 MNOK including VAT for the Stage 1 (S1) investment. In stage 1 we are looking for a base system that is a high quality inverted microscope with state-of-the-art CLSM/FLIM using single photon excitation or a base system that is a state-of-the-art multiphoton microscope with some CLSM capabilities. An offer including options and upgrades for a complete, self-contained and fully functional system capable of performing the functions required in the specification documents must be provided. The microscope, based on a high quality inverted microscope setup (base system), should provide state-of-the-art CLSM/FLIM using single photon excitation and state-of-the-art multiphoton microscopy. Options and upgrades (referred to as Stage 2, S2 in the specification document) must provide missing functionalities that due to budgetary constrains can not be supplied in Stage 1. The estimate is not binding for the contracting authority. The contracting authority reserves the right to cancel the competition, in connection with budgetary coverage and the board's approval.
