Center for Basic Metabolic Research is composed of six independent research groups as indicated below. Although a major part of the research in each of these groups is devoted to different specific aspects of metabolic research, the uniting, overarching research theme is Metabolic Receptology, i.e. the physiological function and pharmacological or therapeutic potential of G protein-coupled receptors (GPCRs) for the treatment of diabetes and obesity. Based on the long-term strong expertise of Professor Thue W. Schwartz in molecular pharmacology, the section study both peptide hormone and metabolite sensors, GPCRs in the enteroendocrine system, the gut-brain axis, white and brown adipose tissue, the liver and the immune system.
