Air defence radar. This requirement is part of the Radar Type 997 capability enhancement programme. RT997 will replace the existing primary Above Water Surveillance and Air Defence Target Indication sensor for RN surface combatants (RT996), it will act as an enabler for the future T26 Future Local Anti-Air Defence System functionality and will deliver critical Air Traffic Management functionality. Results from trials conducted on HMS Iron Duke confirm that the existing T23 data Distribution Unit (DDU), PDM2, can not accurately distribute the required pitch and roll synchro data required for RT997 antenna stablisation; with modification of PDM2, RT997 will not deliver the radar performance specified with the User Requirements Document (URD), impacting the delivery of RT997 Key User Requirements. The requirement therefore is for the Contractor to design a modification to PDM2 to bring RT997 performance to the levels specified in the URD. This modification is then to be produced and embodied in all RN T23 frigates, the PDM2 Reference Set and Shore Integration Facility.
