Comhairle nan Eilean Siar, the local authority for the Outer Hebrides Area are looking for expressions of interest from Organisations to submit a business development case for the provision of locally prepared frozen meals and storage facilities. The Comhairle are investigating the potential of providing older people with a range of nutritionally suitable frozen meals which have been prepared locally using suitable menus and locally produced produce. Prepared meals will be frozen locally and stored for distribution to clients on a fortnightly basis. Providers will prepare the meals and package them in suitable containers ready for distribution, clients will store the frozen meals in their own home in freezers ready for defrosting and heating in microwave ovens, both items will be provided by the authority. Distribution of meals may also be a requirement and organisations should indicate whether this is an option they would consider providing. Alternatively the authority may tender the distribution requirement separately or consider in-house provision. Your business case should encompass sourcing of local produce, on island meal preparation, packaging and labelling, freezing and storage including logistics and potential locations.
