This contract is to design, build, operate and maintain mixed tenure extra care facilities within the County. The Council currently has identified and will make available to bidders three (3) sites in district areas across Derbyshire allotted for extra care accommodation, It is envisaged that these sites could provide up to 300 units of accommodation (1 or 2 bedroom). The Council however should also be willing to consider any additional sites or alternative sites that bidders might wish the Council to consider for use as extra care facilities, both within this scheme and future schemes that the council may require. This contract will also facilitate and deliver any additional extra care schemes that will progress the Council towards achieving its intended target of a minimum of 600 units. For each extra care facility delivered by this contract, the successful contractor is required to make arrangements for the range of services (but not limited to) those described in Section II.2.1 of this notice and that illustrated in the Descriptive document obtainable when expressing an interest. Working in partnership with local older people, Extra Care housing plays an essential role in providing services for older people. The schemes provided under the duration of this contract will make available to people over 55 years self contained independent accommodation whilst giving them access to the care and support they need and providing opportunities for social interaction and leisure. It is envisaged that the schemes will provide a balanced community with some residents having high care needs and others having low to moderate. Although the schemes will not normally be able to accommodate those who need long term nursing care there is an expectation that for most people the accommodation will offer a home for life reducing the need for admission or re-admission to residential care.
