AGV Automated Guided Vehicles for Glasshouse system (ITT/496).

Automated guided vehicle(s) AGVs to transport growth columns within glasshouse. Max weight of soil-filled column with plant: 100 kg. Samples to be collected from glasshouse and transported to (and returned from) the adjacent preparation and root washing area, a transfer system at a minimum time interval of 30 mins. The system will be required to interface with a robotic transfer arm (likely to be a FANUC system) which will load the columns into the scanner, an imaging area within the glasshouse, initial capacity of system 200 columns equally spaced in glasshouse, scope for future expansion desirable. Columns to be raised and lowered into holders with minimal disturbance to contents. Column holder dimensions and design to be determined in collaboration with users to allow secure location of columns in individual holders. To accommodate future designs of holder which may enclose the majority of the height of the column, columns to be manipulated via the top 10 cm. Design and operation to meet H&S requirements at UoN. Note that it anticipated that untrained glasshouse technicians will be present during operation.
