Power System Simulator for Real-Time Hardware in the Loop Testing.

The University wishes to appoint a Contractor or Contractors to supply a Power System Simulator for Real-Time Hardware in the Loop Testing must be a digital system able to perform electromechanical and electromagnetic electric power system transient simulations continuously in real time. It is also expected that the simulator will cover the frequency range DC to ~3kHz. The simulator will be used in various ongoing initiatives at The University of Manchester including the integration of energy storage devices, renewable energy sources, multi-terminal HVDC transmission systems, development of concepts of Wide Area Protection and Control etc. Since one of the main features of the simulator is the ability to test physical metering, control and protection devices, as well as applications involving a larger number of devices to be tested, it must be equipped with sufficient analogue and digital input and output facilities as well as high level communication capabilities (e.g., IEC 61850, C37.118 and IEC 60870). This is particularly important for the development and validation of future Smart Transmission and Distribution Grid applications. The funding has been awarded on the basis of a strictly cash limited sum which is also subject to certain time constraints. The University seeks bids that will provide the best resource, to deliver the best science possible, within the budget and timescale.
