008/0127/15 BRT Feeder Vehicles.

Belfast Rapid Transit: Feeder Vehicles The Department for Regional Development in Northern Ireland is planning a bus rapid transit project to address current and future transport needs in the Belfast Metropolitan Area. The first phase of the project, which is known as Belfast Rapid Transit (BRT), will provide faster, more reliable services and a high quality passenger experience connecting East Belfast, West Belfast and Titanic Quarter via Belfast city centre. The procurement of the main service vehicles has been completed and a contract has been awarded to enable a service introduction on 3.9.2018. A separate procurement is being planned to commence in Q2, 2016 for c. 20 vehicles to provide feeder services at a number of locations as part of the 2018 service introduction. There will be options for up to another 20 similar vehicles to be procured in line with any future expansion of the main services. It is intended that the vehicles will operate approximately 18 hours per day at an interval frequency ranging from 6 to 25 minutes. The anticipated key requirements of the vehicles are: 1. To optimise fuel efficiency and minimise emissions. 2. To present a modern, stylish appearance, equipped and finished to a high standard. 3. To have a carrying capacity in the range of 40 to 60 passengers. 4. To be fully compliant with UK and Northern Ireland Public Service Vehicle Regulations. Innovative approaches in terms of maintenance and support arrangements, vehicle technologies and passenger amenities will be considered.
