Improving access to primary care services is one of the key priorities for the NHS 5 year forward view. It’s acknowledged that primary care is at the heart of NHS services and is often the first point of call for many patients, and whilst GPs have one of the highest patient satisfactions for all public services, demand continues to grow and access to GP services can be difficult. The general practice forward view sets out investment and reform of primary care now through to 2020 including taking steps to expand primary care workforce, increasing GP trainees and other posts (clinical pharmacists, mental health therapists, physician’s associates) as well as investing to upgrade primary care facilities.
