Bangladesh — Local Economic Development (LED) at District Level, Inception Phase 2018-2019

With this Local Economic Development (LED) project, SDC intends to establish LED as a viable form of decentralised economic planning in Bangladesh. The LED project is intended to run for a total of 12 years and will start with an 18 months long inception phase, followed by a first implementation phase of 4 years. The intent of the inception phase is to do a trial to see whether the concept of LED is workable within the current governance system in Bangladesh as a number of challenges for LED have been identified by earlier studies. If the inception phase is successful, activities to test and refine LED in Bangladesh will be intensified in the first implementation phase. The priority during the inception phase is to get LED activities going in the 2 pilot areas, while laying a foundation for the implementation phase in terms of exploring synergies with potential partners, identifying experts and testing a limited number of LED instruments.
