Translink has recently reviewed its procurement strategy for condition based monitoring (CBM) for rail services across Northern Ireland. The Translink urban fleets (Class 3 000 k and Class 4000 k) have their own ‘base station PC’s’ which allows access via mobile communications to the train management system on each train set to obtain data from a limited number of systems on the train set (i.e. engines). Currently, it is a labour intensive and slow method to obtain this data and analyse it for operational and maintenance requirements.
