The SCADA and EMS (Energy Management System) systems are indispensable tools for a transmission system operator to predict the physical quantities of the transmission system and to monitor and control it. The framework conditions for the operation of the Swiss transmission grid have changed significantly in recent years. Current and upcoming European initiatives and the further expansion of renewable energies will further increase volatility and complexity. These challenges are to be met with a modular solution that supports multi-scenarios, decision support and visualizations in a more flexible way and consists of the following components •SCADA: Monitoring and control of the transmission grid •EMS Core: Network analysis for the transmission grid •EMS Case Builder: Creation of transmission grid studies and visualization of grid analysis results
